A few years after the sLKW had been introduced to regular army service, conversions were requested to fit the special requirements of the NBC-Units. The deck was completely filled with decontamination-equipment (water tank with diesel-fired hot water heater, pressure-washer, chemicals as well as all the tarps for a field-decontamination set). The chassis was fitted with spray guns (front) and a solid-chemical dispensing unit (rear) for dispensing decontamination chemicals.
First trials to develop a decontamination vehicle were still based on a type G1 with small hydraulic crane before it was decided to create a specialized type G5 for this application.
Due to their specialized use, none of these vehicles reached very high mileage records during their 40-year service life, our vehicle was discharged from the NBC-School with less than 30000 km on the clock.
Our vehicle was released from the army in 2020, and during the winter of 2020/21 was fully refurbished.
